Care for Babies

Childbirth and pregnancy is not only stressful for the mother – it affects your baby in multiple ways, too. Osteopathy helps your baby to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible by removing any tensions that may have occurred during pregnancy or delivery.

For example, a baby’s head experiences pressure during delivery. This is because their head absorbs the stresses of contractions, and their cranial bones are not yet fused so they can squeeze through the pelvis.

That is why it is common to see babies born with a degree of cranial moulding (pointed heads/disfigured faces), which often disappears after a few hours or days.

It is always beneficial to have your newborn checked by an Osteopath, even if your baby shows no sign of discomfort. Your baby may be carrying multiple tensions through pregnancy or delivery and we can help to identify and release any tension and stress. 

Osteopathy is a very gentle treatment to check your baby’s body, spine, and cranium. At Tunbridge Wells Osteopaths we are trained to screen for medical conditions and advise you if you need to see another professional such as a doctor.
