Classical Osteopathy to treat the pain of scoliosis
Relief from scoliosis pain
Scoliosis is a complex condition that can impact your quality of life. If you are feeling pain, it’s good to seek support from the experts. Tunbridge Wells Osteopaths helps you to find relief, while improving your mobility.
What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis is a complex curvature of the spine. This is when your spine curves sideways and rotates, causing an ‘S’ or ‘C’-shaped spine. The most commonly affected areas are the chest, which is called thoracic scoliosis, or in the lower back, called lumbar scoliosis.
Scoliosis can also be a condition that develops due to a fall or injury. In these cases, your pelvic base becomes misaligned, and the spine becomes curved to compensate. Correcting these pelvic problems can reduce many scoliotic tendencies
Scoliosis in children
Although scoliosis can affect and occur at any age, it is commonly seen in children. Scoliosis can be hereditary so if you, or someone in your family has it, we recommend taking your child to have a full spinal assessment.
How can Tunbridge Wells Osteopaths treat your scoliosis pain?
You don’t need to face scoliosis alone. Our integrated treatment plans support you in numerous ways, such as:
- Increasing your postural awareness
- Reducing your pain
- Reducing the progression of your scoliosis
We provide specific exercises to reduce the rotation of your spine, while maintaining balance within the spinal column. If surgery is the only option to help your scoliosis, Osteopathy can still help to rebalance the soft tissues once your spine has fused.
What our patients say
I was first diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of 15 and thankfully found yoga in my early 20s which has had an enormously positive impact on my back health over the years (and Quentin has been able to explain the reasons why!). However, from time to time I do suffer from back pain as a result of the scoliosis and, as a yoga teacher, this can be very problematic.
I knew Quentin by his reputation locally so he was an obvious choice when I had a flare up. I’ve found that the sessions work immediately and I personally rarely need follow ups.
Quentin also takes the time to explain the mechanics of what the problem is and gives postural adjustments and exercises to take home so you can maintain the results.
When my teenage daughter was also diagnosed with scoliosis, I immediately took her to see Quentin. He took time to show how her spine was misaligned at the start of the session, and by the end of the appointment I could visibly see her spine was back in alignment and her symptoms were relieved.
