Relief from arthritis and stiffness

Pain and inflammation of your joints can be uncomfortable, irritating, and painful, so don’t suffer in silence. At Tunbridge Wells Osteopaths, we help to release tension around your joints so you can increase your mobility and wellbeing.

What is joint pain?

It is estimated that one in six people in the UK suffer from joint pain. This can be from a long-term condition, such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, or from short-term causes, such as an injury or sprain.

Joint pain is felt differently by everyone, although common areas of discomfort include:

  • Elbow pain
  • Foot pain
  • Hand pain
  • Hip pain
  • Knee pain
  • Pelvic pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Spinal pain

What causes joint pain?

Every joint in your body is bathed in a fluid, called synovial fluid, which acts as a lubricant. Each time you move a joint, old fluid is pumped out and new fluid is pumped in. If you don’t move your joints very much – whether you’re sitting at a desk or in the car too long, or simply going through the ageing process – the movement of fluids slows and reduces.

As we get older, the cartilage in your joints can become brittle. Any imbalances in fluid pressure, tension, and compression within the joint can cause the cartilage to wear down, causing bone to rub against bone. This can lead to pain, stiffness and a reduced range of movement.

How can Tunbridge Wells Osteopaths help your joint pain?

Osteopathy is an effective way of relieving pain and tension around your joints. We relieve the stiffness that has developed within the muscles of your joints and focus on draining swollen areas. These techniques help to reduce your pain and discomfort and increase your mobility.

Meanwhile, our soft tissue techniques can help stimulate repair and regeneration to the affected areas. We’ll also give you practical advice on how to recover at home.
