What is pelvic pain?
Pelvic pain can be felt in the joints, ligaments and muscles that make up the pelvic girdle. Pain may be temporary, only lasting a few weeks, but can also be chronic. Pain comes in many different forms – from sharp, stabbing pains to dull, heavy aches or cramps. Any pain that comes from your pelvis is often the root cause for spine, neck, shoulder, hips, and knee issues.
The pelvis is made up of four bones in your body and has five joints. Pain can come from any structural misalignment or injury to these joints. Any problem with these joints will cause a compensatory reaction in the other. For example, if one side of your body is locked due to a fall, the other side will start to move excessively to compensate.
What is coccyx pain?
Coccyx pain is felt at the base of the tailbone, known as the sacrum. The coccyx can twist or dislocate – whether through injury or childbirth. This may mean you feel pain, tenderness, or a dull and achy sensation that gets worse when you sit down for a long time.
What is sacroiliitis?
The sacroiliac joints link the pelvis and lower spine. Sacroiliitis is a painful, inflammatory condition of the sacroiliac joints. It can cause pain and stiffness in the lower back, buttocks, and sometimes pain that radiates down the legs. It is often misdiagnosed as lower back pain.
